Have you heard about the new “land” rush?

In a new podcast episode of the Atlanta REALTORS® Rundown, we discuss the metaverse, which may become the new “it” place to wheel and deal “land”. Are you curious as to what are the things we should know and be cautious of as real estate pros since there is clearly a rush to own in the metaverse?

A quick recap for you: the metaverse, at least at this point, can be defined as anything and everything that has to do with the virtual world. Think: crypto, video games like Minecraft, and even some components like Zoom (hello, virtual backgrounds) can be considered part of the metaverse. The reason it’s so undefined right now is that this is still a new concept. The metaverse, as we have come to understand it, is still being built, but you can rest assured that it’s not going anywhere, and real estate agents might want to get in early.

ICYMI —Just in the last several months, the buzz around the metaverse has included:

  • Facebook changing its parent company name to Meta to
  • Agents at Douglas Elliman forming multi-million dollar metaverse partnerships to
  • Banks doing business in the metaverse
  • The Atlanta Braves being the first metaverse baseball team
  • Even Snoop Dogg created a metaverse world where one investor has paid just under a half-million dollars to own property next to Snoop

And that’s just to name a few. Yeesh!

In short, there’s a lot of excitement about the metaverse. So let’s get into what business as a real estate agent in the metaverse could mean.
